There’s something about finding a cozy coffee shop in the heart of a mountain town that makes any trip feel complete. These local gems offer more than caffeine—they serve up a sense of place.

The Town of Mountain Village (TMV) is excited to announce the opening of the recently relocated Coffee Cowboy on Oak Street Plaza in Telluride at the base of the gondola on Thursday, May 26.
TMV owns Oak Street Plaza which lies within Town of Telluride limits and Mountain Village officials worked extensively with the owners of Coffee Cowboy this winter to secure the location.

I’ve heard locals refer to Telluride, Colorado, as a “little slice of heaven.” Clichés and eye-rolls aside, the sights and food in this mountain town are right on par with that kind of hyperbole.

For 12 years, Coffee Cowboy’s little green cart on Colorado Avenue has been emblematic of the community. In below-freezing temperatures, locals would gather around the patio for a cup of coffee and to share the latest town tea. Visitors come and snap photos of the cart covered in fresh snow with their drink, while the steam from a strategically placed mocha curls into the cold air, creating the perfect Instagram post.

In a remote mountain town such as Telluride, the vibrancy of our community depends on the people who live here. Lucky for us, among our growing population there is a young contingency of movers and shakers who care deeply for this place, and whose contributions bring energy, ideas, and a spirit of conscientiousness to the box canyon.
